After Porn Stops...

Not sure if they are available on Netflix or not, but Mistress and I have watched the first two 'After Porn Ends' documentaries in the last few days and quite enjoyed them. In all honesty I don't recognise that many of the actors, I think they were just a bit before my time (which is a bit weird as I'm approaching 50!), although some of the names were familiar like Houston, Amber Lynn, Asia Carrera and Randy West.

Randy West was quite a funny guy (unfortunately he died several years ago from a heart-attack) and it was interesting to hear these people's take on their experiences within the industry. It's quite funny how many of them (particularly the guys) didn't set out to become 'porn stars', but fell into it when they were offered jobs as a consequence of doing modelling work.

Clearly some of the participants had more negative experiences than others, but overall they were both pretty balanced and well put together programmes. Tiffany Millions (never heard of her to be honest) seems to have come out of it quite well, she's now a warrant officer or something; we see her shooting a pistol in the desert and others seem to have managed to put the past behind them, even though it's not always the easiest thing to do when people recognize you.

Asia Carrera moved away from Hollywood to somewhere that's heavily populated by Mormons, and as she said herself 'put on forty pounds', but still gets recognized and Googled by people who are suspicious of her because she's reluctant to divulge her background.

Then again Brittany Andrews (her laugh is something to behold!) tells us how her life is so brilliant now, she's a DJ and this and that and the other, and how she would never be able to do porn again as it's too 'rough', and yet at the end of the film the 'catch-up' segment tells us that she has indeed gone back to making movies.

One of the best parts of the second documentary was the interview with Georgina Spelvin (The Devil in Miss Jones, 1972) who comes across as a completely adorable 'Granny' figure. Apparently she was only supposed to be working as a cook on the film and they ended up asking her to be in it. She asked if she could still do the cooking, and was paid $45 per do for her cooking and $100 a day for acting! She thought it was brilliant, as she said 'that was a killing in those days!'.

One of the few people in the films I did recognise was Danny D, who was only in it for about a minute or so. He's that guy with the huge 'Chelsea' tattoo on his left arm and who seems to be in every porn scene these days (not least he was in that Doctor Who spoof porn film I mentioned years ago with Franceska Jaimes), I can't imagine why!

Feel free to insert your own 'Tardis' joke here...

There is one more 'After Porn Ends' documentary to watch, although looking at the cast list the only name that I instantly recognized was Tera Patrick, who I always thought was one of the most boring and overrated porn actresses. But she did marry the guy from Biohazard so that might be quite interesting... although I'm pretty sure they didn't last.
