$100 Light (Written May 2025)

This story was inspired by a video starring Marsha May which I saw years and years ago, the idea has been sitting in a folder ever since and I finally got around to writing it...

Doug hit the alarm clock harder than he intended and cursed as he heard it skid across the nightstand and fall onto the hard wooden floor with a ringing ‘clack’.

“Dammit!” he swore, as he reached down to retrieve it.

He checked the device was still working and then put it back in its rightful place, before swinging his legs out of the bed and making his way to the shower. The water was warm and soothing and he rested underneath it for longer than really necessary, enjoying the relaxing sensation as it cascaded down his neck and over his broad shoulders.

Once showered, Doug dressed and then patted his pockets.

“Hmm…”

He looked around the room, but his wallet was nowhere to be seen.

“Maybe I left it in the kitchen?” he muttered to himself.

As he walked across the landing he looked out of the large picture window. He paused for a moment, scanning the wide bay until he spotted what he was looking for, his 19 year old son Brandon. Brandon was an enthusiastic surfer and never failed to get up early if there was the sniff of catching a wave. Doug watched as his boy rode a crest skilfully, wincing as the wave began to break and Brandon’s board became unstable beneath him.

“Never knows when to bail that boy…” he muttered to himself.
